ROOTED is a 30-week functional medicine certification for health professionals who want to understand the physiology behind chronic symptoms, interpret labs with greater confidence, and build personalized plans that make sense for the person in front of them.
Whether you are beginning your functional medicine education or still struggling to apply previous training, ROOTED gives you the structure, tools, and mentorship to practice with greater clarity and confidence.
You recognize that symptoms rarely exist in isolation — but you need a clearer system for connecting them.
You want to identify meaningful patterns across symptoms, history, lifestyle, and labs before dysfunction progresses into disease.
You have completed trainings that gave you more information, but still left you unsure what to do first with a real patient.
You want to integrate nutrition, testing, lifestyle, and targeted interventions into a plan that is thoughtful, sequenced, and personalized.
You want to help patients become active participants in their own care.
You want to practice at the root while maintaining evidence, ethics, professional integrity, and still respect the essential role of conventional medicine.
You chose this work because you care deeply, think critically, and believe every patient deserves to be heard, understood, and included in their own care.
You listen deeply, respectfully, and fully. That is more than bedside manner—it is clinical skill, and it changes what you are able to recognize.
You understand that health is shaped by interconnected systems—not isolated symptoms—and that physiology, nutrition, genetic susceptibility, environment, lifestyle, and lived experience all matter.
Your professional training gave you a valuable foundation, but it may not have given you a clear method for connecting those elements into one coherent clinical picture.
The result is a gap between what you know and the way you want to practice. ROOTED exists to close that gap.

Functional medicine was meant to move healthcare beyond isolated diagnoses and symptom management. It promised a more complete understanding of the individual—their history, biology, environment, lifestyle, and the terrain in which dysfunction developed.
But too often, functional medicine has begun repeating the same disease model it was created to expand.
A conventional diagnosis is replaced with a functional label.
A prescription is replaced with an expensive supplement protocol.
Testing identifies more abnormalities, more recommendations are added, and the patient is sent away to manage an overwhelming plan without consistent follow-up. Once again, the patient is left to heal alone.
Changing the diagnosis from IBS to SIBO, mold illness, dysbiosis, or adrenal dysfunction does not automatically make care personalized. Neither does ordering more testing or recommending more supplements. When every person with the same label receives essentially the same protocol, you are still practicing diagnosis-to-treatment medicine.
Understand the Whole Person
Consider symptoms, history, physiology, genetics, environment, nutrition, lifestyle, resources, and readiness before selecting the plan.
Connect Systems and Patterns
Connect and interpret information across the body to understand how symptoms, labs, and diagnoses relate.
Use Testing With Purpose
Choose testing to answer meaningful clinical questions and influence the direction of care.
Sequence and Personalize Care
Prioritize what matters most, choose targeted interventions thoughtfully, and adapt as the patient responds.
Use Nutrition and Lifestyle Therapeutically
Apply food, movement, sleep, stress physiology, relationships, and environment intentionally and sustainably.
Practice in Partnership
Make the patient an active participant and work alongside physicians, specialists, and conventional medicine when appropriate.
The question should not be:
“What protocol matches this diagnosis?”
instead, it should be:
“Why is this happening in this person, what matters most right now, and what do they need next?”
That is the clinical reasoning ROOTED was created to teach—and the standard functional medicine must rise to meet.
ROOTED is a 30-week certification that brings physiology, functional testing, systems-based reasoning, therapeutic nutrition, and real-world application into one structured curriculum.
The program replaces guesswork with a clear framework for understanding the whole person, identifying what matters most, and determining what should happen next.
ROOTED builds on your existing professional education and strengthens your ability to connect symptoms, history, labs, nutrition, lifestyle, genetic susceptibility, and environment into one coherent clinical picture.
You gain practical systems for interpreting information, prioritizing decisions, sequencing care, and adapting the plan as the patient responds—so functional medicine becomes thoughtful, personalized, and sustainable in day-to-day practice.

Functional Medicine Foundations
Establish a strong foundation in functional medicine by learning to think through systems, not symptoms. You’ll explore how the conventional model compares to root-cause, terrain-based care, and why chronic disease demands a different framework. Learn to identify patterns through clinical timelines, connect lifestyle and environmental inputs to disease expression, and understand how antecedents, triggers, and mediators shape health outcomes. This phase also equips you with tools for sustainable practice—confidence, boundaries, and clarity around your role as a practitioner—and introduces the core mindset shifts that will guide everything that follows.
Gut Health & The Microbiome
Build clinical mastery in gut health by understanding the physiology of digestion, the role of the microbiome, and the integrity of the intestinal barrier. You’ll explore the 5R Gut Healing Framework, the hierarchy of digestive dysfunction, and how to prioritize foundational strategies before turning to supplements. We dive deep into the functional approach to GERD, IBS, IBD, Celiac Disease, Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity, SIBO, H. pylori, and histamine-driven issues like MCAS. You’ll also learn how to implement and personalize therapeutic diets including AIP, low FODMAP, SCD, paleo, and low-histamine for complex digestive cases.
The Exposome – Environmental & Lifestyle
Understand how the exposome—the sum of all environmental and lifestyle exposures—shapes immune function, hormonal health, and chronic disease risk. You’ll examine the role of toxins in metabolic dysfunction, mitochondrial stress, endocrine disruption, and immune dysregulation. Learn how to identify hidden sources of toxic burden, from mold and mycotoxins to plastics, pesticides, and water-damaged buildings. We explore foundational detoxification pathways including liver biotransformation, lymphatic flow, bile excretion, and circadian regulation, while emphasizing resilience-building through personalized lifestyle detox strategies.
Organ Function & Detoxification Systems
Discover how the body’s vital organs work together to eliminate toxins, regulate immunity, and maintain internal balance. This month explores the kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, lymphatic system, spleen, lungs, and heart—not just as isolated structures, but as an integrated network supporting detoxification, digestion, circulation, and cellular resilience. You’ll learn how to assess bile flow, pancreatic enzyme function, and lymphatic drainage, as well as how to support secretory IgA, vagus nerve activity, and mitochondrial health. From cellular housekeeping to oxygen exchange, you’ll gain the tools to optimize whole-body detox and terrain repair.
Blood Chemistry & Functional Testing
Master the art of interpreting blood chemistry through a functional lens. This month trains you to see beyond standard ranges and uncover early patterns of dysfunction across metabolic, endocrine, and immune systems. You’ll learn how to analyze insulin resistance, lipid markers, and advanced thyroid panels, as well as assess anemia types, methylation function, and nutrient deficiencies. We’ll cover kidney function, electrolyte and acid-base balance, and introduce high-impact markers like vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, and copper. You'll also explore hidden infection, heavy metal load, and immune patterns—building confidence in integrating labs with symptoms and terrain.
Immune & Inflammatory Conditions

We cover advanced topics like histamine intolerance, MCAS, the gut-immune axis, and the role of gluten across neurological, hormonal, dermatological, and pain-related disorders. You'll also explore complex autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto’s, Lupus, RA, MS, and Long COVID, while learning how to assess triggers like mold, viruses, heavy metals, and Lyme. This month brings clinical clarity to one of the most misunderstood areas in medicine — and equips you to personalize immune modulation strategies with confidence.
Chronic Disease Management
Move beyond outdated standards of care and into the root-cause drivers of chronic illness. This module reframes the way we think about cardiometabolic disease by integrating functional patterns in blood pressure, lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, and inflammation. You’ll learn how to interpret anemia in the context of chronic disease, apply advanced markers for cardiovascular risk, and understand how hormone imbalance drives metabolic dysfunction. We’ll explore chronic infection, immune activation, and the deeper terrain issues conventional care often overlooks. This is where your clinical insight and nutritional training become the foundation for truly transformative care.
Thyroid Health
Master the full spectrum of thyroid dysfunction with a functional medicine lens. This module dives deep into hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis — exploring how to identify root causes, assess immune triggers, and personalize nutrition strategies for optimal thyroid function. You’ll learn how to interpret complete thyroid panels, address subclinical and cellular hypothyroidism, and understand the nuances of reverse T3 and hormone resistance. We also cover fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum thyroid shifts, as well as nodules, cancer risk, and how to support long-term thyroid health through targeted nutrition and terrain support.
Hormone Health & Endocrine Patterns
Gain mastery over the interconnected web of hormones that regulate metabolism, mood, energy, reproduction, and resilience. This month explores the full endocrine system through a functional lens — from cortisol, insulin, and thyroid function to sex hormones, adrenal health, and growth factors. You’ll learn how to assess hormonal imbalances across the lifespan, including menopause, PCOS, and andropause, while understanding the root causes of dysfunction such as HPA axis disruption, liver burden, gut imbalances, and metabolic stress. We also examine the impact of overtraining, under-fueling, and fasting on hormone signaling, with clear frameworks for restoring balance.
HPA Axis Dysfunction & Stress Physiology
Explore the complex physiology of the HPA axis and how chronic stress drives dysfunction across every major system in the body. This month unpacks the progression from adaptive stress responses to burnout, fatigue, and chronic disease states — with emphasis on circadian disruption, neurotransmitter imbalances, blood sugar dysregulation, and mitochondrial depletion. You'll gain clinical tools to identify HPA patterns, interpret advanced diagnostics, and address the root causes of stress-related illness. Key connections to thyroid, gut, metabolic, and cardiovascular health are woven throughout, alongside integrative strategies for restoring balance, resilience, and recovery.
Brain Health, Mood & Cognitive Function
Dive deep into the functional medicine approach to brain health, exploring the root causes of cognitive decline, mood disorders, and neurological dysfunction. This month examines the gut-brain axis, neuroinflammation, and the impact of hormones, toxins, and stress on the central nervous system. You'll learn how to support neurotransmitter balance, protect the brain from environmental insults, and harness the power of nutrition, movement, and circadian rhythm for long-term cognitive resilience. From depression and anxiety to concussion recovery and neurodegeneration, we integrate therapeutic strategies that nourish both brain and body.

A More Efficient Path to Practice
Instead of spending years and thousands of dollars piecing together webinars, courses, and certifications that still leave you unsure how to apply what you learned, ROOTED brings the science, clinical reasoning, tools, and real-world application into one structured 30-week pathway.
You save time, avoid redundant investments, and complete the program with a cohesive framework you can confidently put into practice.

Strengthen the Practitioner You Already Are
ROOTED builds upon your existing education, experience, and professional role. It gives you a framework for deepening your clinical reasoning, integrating root-cause principles within your scope, and practicing with greater clarity, confidence, and integrity.
ROOTED is designed for health practitioners across disciplines. It was also created from a deep belief that Registered Dietitians are uniquely positioned to help lead the future of evidence-informed root-cause care.
Dietitians bring extensive education in nutritional biochemistry, medical nutrition therapy, clinical assessment, behavior change, counseling, and the ongoing work of helping patients implement change. That expertise is essential to understanding how physiology, nutrition, environment, lifestyle, and lived experience intersect.
Yet too often, the dietitian’s role is narrowed to meal plans, general education, or recommendations made after the larger clinical decisions have already occurred.
ROOTED helps Registered Dietitians connect the depth of their existing training with functional testing, systems-based reasoning, clinical sequencing, and personalized root-cause care—so they can step more fully into the role they are qualified to hold.
At the same time, ROOTED brings practitioners from across healthcare into a shared framework. Every discipline contributes a different perspective, and patients benefit when those strengths work together.

Hi, I’m Kerri Rachelle, PhD[c], RDN, CSSD, FMP-AC — a Doctor of Integrative & Natural Medicine candidate, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, clinical educator, founder and CEO of REV0lution, and creator of ROOTED.
I know what it is like to continue investing in education while still carrying one unanswered question:
How do I use everything I know with the individual sitting in front of me?
Over the years, I invested tens of thousands of dollars in advanced trainings, certifications, research, and webinars. Each experience expanded my knowledge, but I still had to build the clinical reasoning required to connect that information, determine what mattered most, and translate it into thoughtful care.
ROOTED is the program I wish had existed when I began.
It is the culmination of nearly two decades in clinical practice and education—bringing physiology, nutrition, functional testing, systems-based reasoning, clinical sequencing, and real-world application together within one cohesive framework.
My background as a Registered Dietitian gives ROOTED a distinctly nutrition-first foundation. Nutrition, behavior change, patient communication, and long-term implementation are not side topics here. They are essential parts of understanding the person behind the symptoms.
That depth benefits practitioners across healthcare disciplines. ROOTED was created for thoughtful health professionals who want to practice functional medicine with greater evidence, ethics, clarity, and respect for the individual in front of them.
If you are ready to deepen the way you understand health and raise the standard of root-cause care, I would be honored to welcome you into ROOTED.
Let’s raise the standard together.
ROOTED is a 30-week, audio-based certification built for busy clinicians. Each week you’ll receive several short audio trainings (20–30 minutes each) arranged in a clear sequence, plus a companion library of protocol templates, handouts, and case-based tools. The program is self-paced with optional weekly mentorship/Q&A, and a supportive practitioner community. (For the exact weekly breakdown, see the syllabus.)
ROOTED is designed to provide clarity, confidence, and a clinical framework you can immediately apply in practice. Whether you are new to functional medicine or have completed other trainings but still feel uncertain, this program equips you to identify root causes, interpret labs effectively, and design personalized protocols. You’ll leave with a structured system — not just scattered theories or isolated tools.
All health professionals are welcome to take this certification. ROOTED was developed by a Registered Dietitian and builds directly on the nutritional foundations strengths of dietitians, it is open to all licensed health professionals, including NPs, PAs, MDs, DCs, pharmacists, therapists, and health coaches. If you are committed to root-cause healing and want to integrate functional nutrition into your work, ROOTED will provide the structure and clinical tools to help you elevate your care.
Most weeks include multiple 20–30 minute audio lessons. Plan for ~3 hours to listen and review the tools; add ~60 minutes if you join the live mentorship/Q&A that week. Some modules (e.g., case reviews or lab deep dives) may run a bit longer. (For a week-by-week estimate, check the syllabus.)
You won’t be on your own. ROOTED provides layered support: weekly mentorship opportunities, community discussions, and optional coaching calls. You’ll be guided by a practicing RD who understands the challenges firsthand, alongside a community of like-minded clinicians.
